1957 – 1998 The beginning - Central Department Store

The building of the Central Department Store, known popularly with its Bulgarian Acronym ЦУМ (TZUM), is located at the very heart of the capital city, in immediate proximity to the Council of Ministers, the President's Office and the National Assembly. Built in the beginning of one of the oldest boulevards of Sofia "Knyaz Alexander Dondukov'' blvd. - TZUM epitomizes today the modern capital city. Designed by the architect Kosta Nikolov in 1956, the TZUM building is part of the monumental architectural centre of Sofia, the so-called Largo. For the Bulgarians TZUM always has been a symbol of prosperity and a pride for the country. Being the most modern building at its time TZUM has become an obligatory part of each visit to Sofia. People from all over the country used to come to TZUM for each important purchase as everything could be found in the Central Department Store. During the remote 1957 the window of TZUM was decorated not by just a car, but by 'Renault-Dauphine'

1999 – 2000 Recreation - Reconstruction

During 1999 to 2001 TZUM AD successfully completed refurbishment and redevelopment works program which was executed under the direction and supervision of senior British CCL personnel and directly appointed expatriate personnel with appropriate industry expertise who were resident in Bulgaria for the duration of the project. The facilities offered are Grade ‘A' western standard retail and office accommodation.

The redevelopment works realized space designed around two atriums which allow natural daylight into the building from roof level.

An extensive space planning exercise was undertaken by the project's London based Architects in the early stages of design development to determine maximum efficiency ratios from the gross floor areas available.
